Why Should You Drink More Water

The benefits of drinking water are far greater than most people realize. Don't make the mistake of treating thirst with medication. Quench it with some pure cold refreshing water. You're not just what you eat, you're what you drink. 


Water is critically important to your health and well being. It only stands to reason, since the body consists mostly of water (50 to 65%), depriving your body of the water it craves would be critical. Imagine what would happen to your car's engine if you deprived it of the oil it needs to function at it's best. It would seize up and die. You must have water to live or you will, so to speak, "seize up and die".


Drinking Water Decreases Health Issues

The benefits of drinking water is an invaluable public health message. Drinking six to eight glasses of water daily can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50% and it can potentially even reduce the risk of breast cancer. And those are just a few of the benefits of drinking water! We can all change the way or what we drink. Cut down, or quit altogether drinking those unhealthy soft drinks, sugared drinks and yes, diet soft drinks too. Start drinking pure, natural water that is beneficial to your health, the environment and your pocket book.

Water is essential to sustaining life and is key to promoting exceptional health to your body. All of your internal organs need clean drinking water to help keep them functioning efficiently. Your muscles that move your body are 75% water. Your blood that transports nutrients throughout your body is 82% water. Your lungs that supply oxygen are 90% water. Your brain is 76% water. Even your bones contain 22% water.


Prevent Dehydration

Unintentional Chronic Dehydration (UCD) contributes to and even produces pain and many degenerative diseases that can be prevented and treated by increasing water intake on a regular basis. Our body doesn't always tell us when we are thirsty. Generally, by the time we feel thirsty, we have already started to dehydrate. Our health is truly dependent on the quality and quantity of the water we drink. We can never under emphasize the benefits of drinking water.


Don't Drink Too Much Water


While not drinking enough water can cause many health issues, drinking too much water has its' drawbacks and can sometimes be fatal. Watch your water intake! Drinking too much water can be dangerous if you have Edema,(an abnormal accumulation of fluid beneath the skin or in one or more cavities of the body). Individuals with medical conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and kidney problems should talk to their doctor before increasing their water intake.


Water Quality

Water is an important factor to our physiology. The quality of the water is just as important as the quantity that we drink. Drinking water should always be clean and free of contaminants to ensure proper health and wellness.


The Safe Water Controversy

It is widely believed that most tap and well water around the world is not safe for drinking due to heavy industrial and environmental pollution, mostly in under developed countries. Others believe we have reached the point where all sources of drinking water, including our local water systems, wells, lakes and rivers contain levels of contamination.

In America and other developed countries, most tap water is deemed safe to drink. But many still don't believe that our tap water is safe to drink. This is an assumption and not necessarily a fact. This assumption may be due to the multi billion dollar bottled water industry.

For easy access to pure clean drinking water, try installing a water filtering system or water purifier. Utilizing a simple faucet filter can easily do the trick. 


A good water filtration system installed in your home is one way to proactively monitor and ensure the quality and safety of your drinking water.  


If you have a water filtering system through your refrigerator, don't forget to check that filter also. If your water flow has stopped it could be that your filter is clogged.

If water filtering does not appeal to you or is not practical, another option is purchasing bottled water at your local grocery or convience store. 


You can also purchase a water cooler for your home which utilizes a 5 gallon refillable bottle. Refilled bottles can be acquired at most grocery stores with an optional bottle exchange.

To Get The Benefits Of Drinking Water - Six Is Great

It's been commonly believed that a healthy daily intake of water is eight 8-ounce glasses a day if you are at a normal weight for your height. From what I've read in numerous articles, "Eight Is Great" is a little high for most people. A more acceptable amount is six 8-ounce glasses for the average person, which is a good place to start. Before making changes on your water intake (Read Warnings On Water Intake). 


For those that exercise or play sports regularly I would increase that amount accordingly. Cutting back on soft drinks and drinking more water has dramatically improved my health personally. By gradually improving your water intake, it won't be long before you feel and see the benefits of drinking water in your life.

Dr. Fereydoon Batamanghelidj, M.D. (a.k.a. Dr. B), is the author of the book “Your Body's Many Cries For Water". Dr. B. was slated to be shot as a political prisoner of Khomeni’s revolutionaries after the government of the Shaw was overthrown in 1979. While in prison, he found that many inmates suffered from ulcers and he used nothing but water to treat them and cured every single one of over 3,000 inmates with just water. He also found that many of these same people suffering from severe depression were cured in just a few days by drinking lots of water.

When his trial came up a year and a half later, he presented his discovery of the benefits of drinking water as his defense from 32 charges, each of which carried the death penalty if he were convicted. The judge recessed the trial and reconvened two weeks later where he acknowledged that their medical doctors concluded that he had indeed made a tremendous discovery. That is what gained his release.

After leaving Iran and coming to the USA, Dr. B continued his research at the University of Pennsylvania where he gathered the material for his ground breaking book, “Your Body's Many Cries for Water.” This book has been peer reviewed by many researchers around the world where Dr. B. gave lectures.
